Thank you Nick J.C. Pierce for this cool image of you wearing your Ankh XL Ring.

Nick J.C. Pierce's Testimonial-  Ever since I was a toddler, I’ve been in love with Erykah Badu. Yeah, you can laugh, but can you blame me? She’s a beautiful, conscious spirit who taught me to love myself, and also taught me to embrace my culture and roots. I remember when I went to my first Badu concert. I was fifteen years old. She was in Philly promoting her album New Amerykah Part 2: Return of the Ankh. She came out onstage to the tune of “20 Feet Tall,” with her hands covering her face, revealing the beautiful work of Studio of Ptah: http://images.popmatters.com/blog_art/b/badupa-21.jpg

From then on, I was determined to find jewelry like that. Luckily, a year later, I stumbled upon Studio of Ptah’s Twitter page. We began talking rings, and just a few weeks later, I received my custom Ankh XL ring in the mail.

My first thought when I saw it was “how am I supposed to write a paper with this thing on?” Fortunately, the ring sits comfortably on my finger. The reactions I get from people when I wear my ring are surprising. Not only do people compliment on its stunning design, they always want to know the background on the symbols, its origin, its meaning, etc. Studio of Ptah jewelry is more than a fashion statement— it’s a call to consciousness. Studio of Ptah proves that African style is more than just beads and bright colors—it’s knowledge and culture (not that I’m knocking beads and bright colors. They’re nice, too).
